Tenebrae 2016
Tenebrae, a Latin word meaning “darkness fell”, is that part of the Liturgy of the Hours that was celebrated in the evenings during the Sacred Triduum of Holy Week. The distinctive feature is the gradual extinction of all the lights in the church as we contemplate the temporary triumph of the Prince of Darkness over the Light of the world. The service consists of a series of prayers, psalms and responses, and 3 readings from the Book of Lamentation. The service concludes with a great noise symbolizing the earthquake that followed the death of Christ.
