Holy Week SErvices 2019
Our Holy Week Services begin with Tenebrae, that part of the Liturgy of the Hours that is celebrated in the evenings during the Sacred Triduum of Holy Week. The service consists of a series of prayers and responses, 3 readings from the Book of Lamentations and the gradual extinction of all the lights in the church as we contemplate the temporary triumph of the prince of darkness over the Light of the world. The service concludes with a great noise symbolizing the earthquake that followed the death of Christ.
The Holy Triduum, the Mass of the Lord’s Supper which includes the Washing of the Feet, Good Friday of the Lord’s Passion and the Mass of the Resurrection of the Lord, though chronologically three days, is liturgially one day unfolding for us the unity of Christ’s Pashal Mystery.
Following is the music performed for Tenebrae, Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the Easter Vigil.
